I've known Kathy and Dzeni since they first met, and I've learned so much through their stories and just by being a part of their life.  They both share such a love and appreciation of their relationships, with each other, their family, and their friends.  They don't let the difficulties of life get in the way of reaching out to and being their for others.  It's so refreshing to see how they care for others, perhaps because of what they've gone through.  Dzeni understands what it's like to lose everything and to start over in life.  He lived through it!  Twice!  And now as he regains his speech and stamina, he's still reaching out to others and giving of himself.  I'm so glad they've chosen to share their life through this book, and I know it will be an inspiration to those who read it.

The fact that Dzeni is sharing his story of his life in Sarajevo and the journey he made to the United States will hopefully educate many who don't understand what the life of a refugee is and what it can become with determination, hard work, and a desire to take hold of the opportunities that are out there.  Though the war in our country was a long time ago, the effects live on, and it was a wound from that time that precipitated his second story of survival after his stroke.  War affects our lives forever, but it doesn't have to take a hold of us and keep us down.  Dzeni and Kathy demonstrate that so well.  This book will open people's eyes to a mindset we can all learn from.  Thanks for the inspiration!

I know what it's like to be a caregiver to someone who has a critical illness - the sorrow, disappointment, joy, and gratitude that we all go through as we see a loved one struggle to regain skills, memory, stamina, life.  It doesn't come easily, but when we have the support of knowing we're not alone, it takes some of the burden away.  In hearing Kathy and Dzeni's stories, I so related to them immediately, because they were speaking the same things my wife and I were going through.  Our worlds had collided in a way that none of us would have hoped, and yet, I felt that I had two new friends before I even had met them.  These stories need to be told.  We need to know we're not alone.  It doesn't have to be the same situations.  We can support each other through inspired words like those in this book.
